ABOUT THE ARTIST :

I think that when asked, most painters would say that in some capacity or another, they’ve been painters all their lives. I can’t remember a time when an inspiring image wouldn’t find me thinking about how to ‘catch that moment’.

Although I have worked in a number of mediums, I discovered oils a few years ago, and I have been a believer ever since. I enjoy the give and forgiveness of oil paint, the flexibility of all those brushes and the power of blending that oil offers. I also enjoy exploring a number of subject matters.  Naturally as most artists, inspiration drives the first brush strokes and all subject matters are opportunities for another lesson in the art- of painting. However, my love of the outdoors always draws me to trying to catch the essence of a landscape.

Living in the Northwest offers me four distinct seasons, big skies and a diverse landscape. Creating both tension as well as balance by playing these elements off each other on the canvas, in my mind, is the key to capturing the Northwest landscape. Whether it be the soft lights of the winter, misty colors of the spring, contrasting sunsets or brilliant fall days- the light and weather are powerful elements that define the day as well as define our moods. I strive to catch this essence in my paintings and enjoy sharing it with my viewers.
